Cornerstone Ruminations

As summer’s fast pace begins to fade and the crisp air of fall settles in, it offers a natural invitation to slow down. The changing colors of the leaves, cooler temperatures, and shorter days remind us that life moves in seasons, each with its own rhythm and purpose. Yet in a world that often celebrates constant productivity and activity, slowing down can feel more difficult than ever. In this rumination, our team discusses the importance of mastering the art of slowing down. It’s not about doing less for the sake of it, it’s about creating space to reflect, recharge, and fully appreciate the present moment.

Don

When we drive back to the first town that we lived in as a married couple – Bozeman, Montana – and stay at our condo, it is a nice welcome respite from the day-to-day activities of the office and responsibilities of work. I feel relaxed there, even though I am most likely still working on office tasks, I welcome the opportunity “to slow down.”

Leslie

I “slow down” the moment I enter my sewing room – Hassie’s Atelier – sewing in this room is like entering a room of ambience, creativity and self-satisfaction. It is a wonderful moment in time when I’m sewing and creating in this little room of bliss.

Hailey

As a new mom, I often hold onto the saying, "This too shall pass." It reminds me that every stage, both the challenging moments and the beautiful ones, are only here for a season. I know that one day I'll look back and miss the very moments I'm living now. Because of that, I try to hold onto the little things: the small victories, the sweet cuddles and contact naps, the everyday moments that can so easily slip by unnoticed or undervalued. I want to soak it all in instead of wishing the days away. Time moves quickly enough on its own, and while some days feel long, I know these moments are short-lived. I choose to be present, to appreciate the season I'm in, and to cherish it for what it is because someday, I know I will miss it.

Jamie

I’m a huge lover of nature as an Earth sign so I appreciate long walks, peaceful waters or hiking when the weather changes. I’m intentional on spending time writing and reflecting on my year and tons of quality time with my family and friends.
