Cornerstone Ruminations

The choices we make often define the course of our lives, but the most transformative decisions are rarely made for practical reasons alone. When a decision is driven by love—whether for another person, a passion, or a greater purpose—it carries a unique power to reshape our perspective and direction. Acting out of love requires vulnerability and courage, yet it often leads to growth and self-discovery. Read below to see what decisions each member of our team made from a place of love. These decisions not only altered their paths but also deepened their understanding of what it means to live with intention and compassion.

Don

"This is an easy on for me to answer. The best decision I have ever made out of love was actually two days, the day I proposed to my wife, Leslie, and the day we were married!"

Leslie

"Love… how does one define this 4 letter word?
One of the powerful moments of LOVE… was when I had to let go of each of my sons on the day that they moved out of our home to start on their journey as young men to forge their own paths in life. I had to LOVE them enough to let them go --- Cory went into the United States Air Force and Eric went away to college to Raleigh, North Carolina."

Hailey

"One decision I have made out of love for my husband is moving to Montana. Even though we are both from California, he wanted to move here after the start of the pandemic. Being originally from the beach in California and growing up near the ocean, I never pictured myself living somewhere else let alone somewhere where it snows. The winter of 2020/2021 was my very first Montana winter, or real winter anywhere. As I was scraping snow off my car windshield at 7 am before work, I whispered to myself, “the things you do for love.” I would never have pictured myself living outside of California if it wasn’t for my husband and it made me chuckle because if I told my 16-year-old self how my living situation would change so drastically, I would never believe it. However, moving to Montana was the best thing I ever did, and I would not be where I am today without this change in my path."

Autumn

"We moved closer to home to be with our families once our first baby was born. Seeing the love between our babies and their grandparents we know it was the best move for us and our family. I loved where we lived previously, but this was the best decision we ever made."

Taylor

"I chose to study something I truly love. In college, I pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and earned a minor in Art History. Throughout my college years, I was often asked what I planned to do with that degree. While I never really had a practical answer, I was drawn to the creativity and the incredible abilities of the artists. Truly, it was one of the things I absolutely chose out of love."
