What is Right with America?

America. Referred to by some as the greatest country of all. From its beginning, America has had the spirit of opportunity and change. There is a sense of hope of optimism about America. People are furled by the “American Dream” that implies we can be whatever we want to be and constantly strive to be better. Though sometimes it can feel hopeless, America is the land of chances and new beginnings as we continue to fight for our dreams. As Bill Clinton once said, “There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by with what is right in America.” Freedom is what makes us special.

Don – I am proud to be a citizen of the greatest country on planet earth. A country that is a melting pot of cultures, races and societies that all have one thing in common, we are free and have the ability to strive for our own dreams. Every time we turn on a light, call a friend on our cell phones, vacuum our floors, take a photograph, ride in an elevator or even zip a zipper, we have an American to thank. Our American ingenuity is reflected in everything from cell phones to computers, to genetic engineering and the world is a better place for having our country as the leading free democratic society.

Leslie – I’m a glass is half full, not a glass is half empty woman. For me to find only one item to list is difficult . . . as I can think of many things that are right with America on this 4th of July 2024. What is RIGHT with America . . Democracy = Freedom = Opportunities = You Can Be Anything You Set Your Mind To in America . . This belief comes to me from my dear Grampa Leland. He immigrated to America from Norway at a very young age.  He didn’t speak English, he didn’t know how to read or write English when he arrived in America. He believed, and imparted this belief to me by saying that “in America you could be anything you wanted to be with hard work, diligence, honor & love of God Almighty. He died as a naturalized American citizen, he owned his land, his home, his vehicles and still had a fair amount of money in the bank.  He accomplished all of this due to Democracy = Freedom = Opportunities = You Can Be Anything You Set Your Mind To . . THANK YOU, Grampa Leland, for being such a great example of a good American citizen.

Hailey – In my opinion, something that is right with America is their preservation and protection of wild land, parks and animals. I love the conservation efforts done in America to keep our land beautiful and free for everyone to see it. There are so many different climates and demographics in America and having access to view them all is special.

Autumn – We are still a nation that has freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Women have equal rights and are treated with respect. The justice system is based on rules and laws and not based on the bias of man. We have the right to vote - and the citizens of the United States have the right to CHOOSE who our leaders are. We are not given leaders - we choose our leaders. We live in a democracy - we are important. We are a united nation - my list could go on and on. :) - "America the Beautiful" <-- even when we are messy - its still a beautiful land <3

Jennifer – What I believe is right in America is the incredible capacity for change that is present. There is always room to grow and change and create the best version of yourself. The idea that you can be anything you want to be is a cliché for a reason, it’s true. You have the ability to be whatever you want and that’s why so many people want to come here. It isn’t perfect, nothing is, but it has the capacity for almost limitless growth and I think that’s awesome.
